Answer:

x = 90° or π/2

Solution:

  • Given : sin²x + sinx = 2
  • To find : x = ?

We have ;

=> sin²x + sinx = 2

=> sin²x + sinx - 2 = 0

=> sin²x + 2sinx - sinx - 2 = 0

=> sinx(sinx + 2) - (sinx + 2) = 0

=> (sinx + 2)(sinx - 1) = 0

Here,

Two cases arises .

Case(1) : sinx + 2 = 0

=> sinx + 2 = 0

=> sinx = -2 { not possible }

This is not possible because the value of sinx ranges from –1 to 1 ( ie ; -1 ≤ sinx ≤ 1 ) .

Case(2) : sinx - 1 = 0

=> sinx - 1 = 0

=> sinx = 1

=> sinx = sin90°

=> x = 90° { appreciate value }

Hence, x = 90°
