Answer:

x = 225 ohm

Explanation:

by using formula

P / Q = R / S

500/ 800 = x+ 400 / 1000

5/ 8 = x + 400 / 1000

1800 / 8 = x

x = 225 ohm

Concept

What is wheatstone bridge ?

The Wheatstone network (or bridge) is a circuit for indirectly measuring resistance by the zero comparison method by comparing it to a known standard resistance. It consists of four resistors "R_(1), R_(2), R_(3) and R_(4)" connected in a quadrilateral ABCD.

Given:- R = x + 400 ohm

             P = 500 ohm

             Q = 800 ohm

             S = 1000 ohm

To find:- value of x

Formula:- P/Q = R/S

Solution:- P/Q = R/S

500/800 = x + 400/1000

x + 400/1000 = 500/800

x + 400 = 500/800 × 1000

x + 400 = 0.625 × 1000

x + 400 = 0.625 × 1000

x + 400 = 625 - 400

x = 225ohm
