Hey guys your answer is here
Linear momentum is a vector quantity, and in Newtonian mechanics the linear momentum of a particle is given by . A dot product takes two vectors and returns a scalar value, not a vector, so it returns the wrong type of value to be linear momentum.

Linear momentum is just the multiplication of a sclar quantity(mass) with a vector (velocity). And so, as you are just changing each component of velocity vector by multiplying it with the mass scalar, the result will be a vector itself.
