What is the volume of water to be added to 200 ml of 18 M H2SO4 solution to get 1.8 M H2SO4 solution?

Explanation:

we know that when a solution is diluted its molarity decreases but number of moles of solute before and after dilution remains constant.

so, number of moles of solute before dilution = number of moles of solute after dilution

=> M1 V1 = M2 V2

M1 = molarity of solution before dilution  

V1 = volume of solution before dilution

M2 = molarity of solution after dilution

V2 = volume of solution after dilution

=> 18M X 200ml = 1.8M X V2

V2 = 2000ml

volume of water added = 2000 - 200 = 1800ml
