NEW DELHI: President A P J Abdul Kalam on Friday suggested a three-point formula to usher in peace in the country, stressing upon good education at elementary level as an important means.
"If India develops into a prosperous land, it will become peaceful, beautiful and secure," he said inaugurating the International Conference on Universal Harmony Through Reverence for All Life here.
"India can become a peaceful country if value education is provided to children at elementary level, all religions graduate into spiritual movements and poverty is eradicated," Kalam said.
Elaborating on his suggestions, he said children upto 15 years, which covers one-third of the population, should be provided "value education" by father, mother and elementary teachers.
"Good education system can generate enlightened citizens," he said.
Stressing on elimination of poverty through economic prosperity, the President said, "there should be high employment potential as without that we cannot remove poverty."
He said the menace of international terrorism, cross-border terrorism and communal violence could also end if there is peace in mind.
"Peace in mind will lead to peace in family and in the nation," he said, adding, "there is a connectivity between heart, character, nation and world
