The satellite moves around the earth in a circular path.

The gravitational force of the Earth is the centripetal force.

Then at every point of the circular orbit, centripetal force act on the satellite at right angles to the direction of motion of the satellite, θ = 90º.

We Know, W = F s cos θ

           = F s (0)

Answer :

›»› The work done on the satellite by the Earth is zero (0).

Required Solution :

Before we start our solution, let's first we know about work done.

Work Done :

When any object that applied force on the object and the object is move one point to another point that is known as work done.

  • The SI unit of work done is Joule (J).
  • Wrok is represented by W.
  • Work done is defined as W = F cos θ × S.

So, let's start our solution...

When a satellite moves around the earth the force of gravity is directed inward along the radius of the circular path while the direction of motion is along the tangent which is perpendicular to the radius. In this way force of gravity and displacement are mutually at right angle to each other as a result of which the work done on satellite is zero.

As we know that

⇛ Work done = F cos θ × S

⇛ Work done = F cos 90° × S

⇛ Work done = F × 0 × S

⇛ Work done = F × 0

⇛ Work done = 0

Hence, the work done on the satellite by the Earth is zero(0).
