what is the work of mercury in thermometer

Due to it's low B.P. of Mercury , it can detects the body temp. accurately and fastly.

As the temperature rises,the mercury gets hotter and it expands (increases in size) by an amount that's directly related to the temperature.the mercury is pushed up through the constriction by the force of expansion helping to measure the temperature of things
