Mitochondria is a double membrane bound like structure. It is discovered by benda. Inside the mitochindrial boy bolds are present which increase the surface area for the mithondrial activities. It is also call the power house of cells because it give the energy to perform some of the basic functions by the cellular activities. It has its own genetic material like DNA and proteins.

So the one of the main function of mitochondria is to give power to the cell for performing all the functions .
