hi friend,
work of long neurons is receiving information or signals, form communication with other neurons to decide whether the particular information should be passed along or not.

A single neuron can’t do very much by itself, and nervous system function depends on groups of neurons that work together.

the main purpose of them to be too long is that they need to transfer impulses or information over long distance within the body
also,
Nerve cells in the brain are much shorter but have many branching pathways that also allow them to cover a lot of area.
hope it helps :)
