Waves, like streams erode the coastal rocks with the help of rock fragments present in the water. Due to the continued erosion by waves, the coastline keeps retreating and a number of topographical features are formed in the process.

Sea waves play an important role in the erosion of coastlines and can create many types of land features within or next to the ocean. They can also create sea caves by battering the coastline.
