A natural geyser is a mechanismthat extracts heat from the earth. Meteoric water, trapped in porous rocky reservoirs close to the surface of the earth, is heated and some is then thrown clear of this reservoir in the form of hot water or steam. There are two basic types of geysers: columnar, and pool.
