the chemical properties of metals are as follows:
1)Metals react with oxygen to produce basic oxides.
For example: 2Cu+O2 --> 2CuO
copper+oxygen->Copper Oxide
2)Metals react with water to produce Oxides or Hydroxides and hydrogen
for example: Zn+H20-->ZnO+H2
Zinc+Water->Zinc Oxide+Hydrogen
3) Metals react with dilute acids such as dilute sulphuric and hydrochloric acid to form the corresponding salt and liberate hydrogen
For example: Mg+H2SO4-->MgSO4+H
Magnesium+Sulphuric acid-
-->Magnesium sulphate +Hydrogen
3)Only some metals react with strong bases such as Sodium Hydroxide to release Hydrogen gas.
