There is a difference between having water and having water that we can use. There is a large amount of water tied up in the form of ice, in which the retrieval and processing for human consumption would be expensive. Of course we also have the same problems when it comes to our oceans, as the process to separate salt and minerals is very expensive due to the huge amounts of energy necessary to perform the process. That leaves us with a much smaller amount accessible for human consumption. Take away the waters that have been contaminated by industry and our available water gets even smaller. So as you can see having water and having water you can use are two different issues. The latter of the two are what people are talking about when they talk about water shortages. Because there is salty water in 70 percent of world water and 1 percent is portable water that we can drink and use in daily use we cannot drink salty water and use it.

HOPE IT HELPS YOU!!
