The expansion era of baseball took MLB to the west coast and made people in places such as California feel that they were more part of America instead of Mexico and Japan. MLB also strengthened its bonds with he south with the Texas Rangers, Houston Astros. Tampa Bay (Devil) Rays ,and Miami (Florida) Marlins.

More about army pride and patriotism is the fact that sporitng events in NYC were cancelled for ten days after the 9/11 terror attacks. When the games were resumed players wore hats commemorating the fire department and police department.

Another very American aspect of baseball is the importance given to the country in the game. By this I mean that MLB stadiums play “God Bless America” at every game and there are always veteran days scheduled and some veteran will always be honored pregame( at least at the Mets’ Citi Field).
