The degree to which a specified material conduct eletricity,calculated as the ratio of the current density in the material to the electric field which causes the flow of current.

Answer:

What is Thermal conductivity?

⇒ Thermal conductivity is the amount of heat that is transferred over certain duration of time due to a temperature difference.

⇒ Experimentally observation show that amount of heat transfer is directly proportional to temperature difference (ΔT), area of face A and the time at which heat is flow and inversely proportional to distance between two faces.

\implies \sf Q \propto \dfrac{\Delta T\;A\;t}{\Delta x}

Where,

  • ΔT = Temperature difference (T₁ - T₂)
  • Δx = Distance between two faces.
  • t = Time at which heat flow.
  • Q = Amount of heat
  • A = Area

\implies \sf Q \propto \dfrac{\Delta T\;A\;t}{\Delta x}\\ \\ \\ \implies \sf Q = k\Bigg(\dfrac{\Delta T}{\Delta x}\Bigg)At\\ \\ \\ \sf Where,\;k=Coeff.\;of\;thermal\;conductivity.

⇒ Unit of k = JS⁻¹m⁻¹k⁻¹

⇒ Dimension = [M¹L¹T⁻³K⁻¹]
