Thermal decomposition reaction:-

It is a type of reaction in which heat is applied to a single compound and that compound breaks into many sub-compounds.

Let's take an instance.

If we heat Carbon dioxide then it will break into 1 molecule of Carbon and 2 Molecules of Oxygen.

Reaction:-

CO2 + Heat ------> C + O2

Now Lets take some other instances.

If we heat Copper Carbonate then it will break into Copper Oxide and Carbondioxide.

CuCO3 + Heat --------> CuO + CO2

Explanation:

Thermal decomposition. Some compounds break down when heated, forming two or more products from one reactant. This type of reaction is called thermal decomposition . Copper carbonate is green and copper oxide is black.
