Thermal Power plants use fossil fuels (like coal) as the main source of producing energy. Coal being a fossil fuel is a non-renewable source of energy and is responsible for more than half of world's energy production.

The main factors which are responsible for location of thermal power stations are :-

★ Proximity to water supply for coolants.

★ Proximity to major cities for efficient power transmissions and better connectivity

★ Depending upon power consumption

Basic units of a thermal power plant are:

➀ Fuel

➁ Boiler

➂Turbine

➃Electric Generator
