A mixture of a metal and a metal oxide capable of producing a thermite reaction, such as aluminiummetal and ferric oxide; used inincendiarydevices.

It is a reaction in which reduction of metals like iron is carried out with the help of aluminium to obtain pure metal . It is used in joining railway tracks as it is very exothermic process.
