Thermite Reaction➙ The reduction of a metal oxide to form metal by using aluminium powder as a reducing agent.

Ex:- A copper thermite reaction using copper oxide & elemental aluminium can be used for creating electric joints in a process called cadwelding that produces elemental copper.

❖ This is an exothermic reaction.

❖ It is the products of aluminium oxide, elemental iron, & a large amount of heat.

❖ It is the reaction of metal oxide with the aluminium.

❖ It is sometimes called the Ames process.

❖ It is used extensively by the electrical utilities and telecommunications industries

❖ The fuel in the thermite reaction you produce is aluminum in the foil.

Answer:

Thermite is a pyrotechnic composition of metal powder and metal oxide. When ignited by heat, thermite undergoes an exothermic reduction-oxidation reaction. Most varieties are not explosive, but can create brief bursts of heat and high temperature in a small area.
