Thermite reaction is an exothermic reaction between iron oxide and aluminium which produces a large amount of heat and can even melt iron .The molten iron is placed between cracks and can be used to weld the tracks together.

Thermite reaction takes place in the presence of heat ( thermal condition) which helps in forming fused metals (metals in molten form) . This fused metals helps in join railway tracks or joining other broken metals .
