He discovered the electron, the first subatomic particle.

In this model atom is composed of electrons are embedded within spherically distributed, positive charge to balance the electrons' negative charges, example negatively charged “plums” surrounded by positively charged “pudding”. ( because of using plumb this model is also called "plum pudding" model ) .

In the year 1904 Thomson model was disproved by german physicist Hans Geiger's and english physicist Ernest Marsden's 1909 gold foil experiment.
