A preservative is a substance or a chemical that is added to products such as food, beverages, pharmaceutical drugs, paints, biological samples, cosmetics, wood, and many other products to prevent decomposition by microbial growth or by undesirable chemical changes.

Preservatives are substances which enhance the lifetime of a product and prevents it from rotting quite early. It prevents the food from getting oxidised by air and increases the lifespan. For e.g. Sulphur dioxide gas acts as a strong preservative in packaged foods, preventing them from going rancid by oxidation and increasing its shelf life..

Hope this helps you..
Good Luck ✌️✌️
