Tollens' reagent is a chemical reagent used to determine the presence of aldehyde, aromatic aldehyde, and alpha-hydroxy ketone functional groups. The reagent consists of a solution of silver nitrate and ammonia. It was named after its discoverer, the German chemist Bernhard Tollens.

Tollens' test, also known as silver-mirror test, is a qualitative laboratory test used to distinguish between an aldehyde and a ketone. It exploits the fact thataldehydes are readily oxidized (see oxidation), whereas ketones are not.
