Tooth enamel is chemically known as Ca10(PO4) 2(OH) 1.

It starts corroding when the pH level of the mouth gets below 5.5

If food particles remain in mouth, the bacteria
present in the mouth produces acid by degrading the particles.

The doctors suggest the use of tooth powder or toothpaste because toothpaste and tooth powder are basic or alkaline in nature. These neutralize the bacteria present in mouth and will further prevent the tooth decay.
