Tooth enamel is made up of calcium phosphate.
As tooth decay or cavities is caused when our mouth pH get decreases from 5.6.
The decrease is due to the acid which is produced by the bacteria present in our teeth.
So the role of toothpaste is that it neutralize the acid . As the toothpaste is basic in nature so,when acid and base react they neutralize each other. So it prevent cavities and tooth decay.
