When light goes from dense to rare mediums , sometimes it reflects back into the medium itself. This happens if the angle of incidence is over critical angle.

Hi friend here is your answer

When light travels from denser medium to rarer medium if the angle of incidence is greater than the critical angle then the light will reflect back to the same denser medium this phenomenon is known as total internal reflection
Critical angle (for your reference)
When the ray of light travels denser medium to rarer medium the angle of incidence at which angle of refraction becomes 90 degrees is called critical angle
