hey friend your answer.
If the refractive index is lower on the other side of the boundary and the incident angle is greater than the critical angle, the wave cannot pass through and is entirely reflected. The critical angle is the angle of incidence above which the total internal reflection occurs.

absolute refractive index is defined as a ratio of the speed of light in the vacuum and in selected medium  

relative refractive index is defined as a ratio of speed of light in two different media

When in relative refrective index ,second medium is vacuum then both will be same

Formula n=c/v
