Transuranic waste. Material contaminated with transuranic elements—artificially made, radioactive elements, such as neptunium, plutonium, americium, and others—that have atomic numbers higher than uranium in the periodic table of elements.

The transuranium elements (also known as transuranic elements) are the chemical elements with atomic numbers greater than 92, which is the atomic number of uranium. All of these elements are unstable and decay radioactively into other elements.

With two exceptions, all transuranium elements are artificial and man-made. Two Plutonium isotopes; Pu 244 and Pu 239 are detected in very small quantities. All other elements from atomic number one to 92 are found in nature and quite stable in nature. It does not mean that they are not radioactive in nature.

Transuranium Elements in Nature. All of the elements with atomic numbers 1 to 92 can be found in nature and have stable or very long half-life isotopes. They can also be created as common products of the decay of uranium and thorium.
