what is transmission ratio

Transmission ratio is the ratio of input shaft rotation to output shaft rotation. Older 3 and 4 speed manual transmissions and 2 and 3 speed automatic transmissions have 1–1 ratios in high gear.( One revolution in to one revolution out.) Newer transmissions have an overdrive ratio or two. To calculate the ratios divide the tooth count of the driven gear by the tooth count of the drive gear.
Hope it helps

The transmission ratio is defined as the ratio of the angular velocities or frequencies of rotation of the components. This usually refers to the ratio of the angular velocity of the driving component to the angular velocity of the driven component: u = ω1/ω2.
