Losing water vapor from the leaves of plants.

The evaporation of water from the leaves of a plant is called transpiration. The continuous evaporation from the leaves, creates a space and then the water again fills that place, again transpiration occurs. Hence, it creates a kind of suction which pulls up the water through the xylem vessels.

Actually, as we know that roots absorbs water from soil, out of all only 2% of water is used by plants in different kinds of metabolic activities. Rest of the water is lost by the plant from the living aerial parts of the plant in the form of water vapours.

 \Large{ \boxed{ \red{ \rm{Types\: of \: transpiration}}}}

The loss of water occurs in the form of water vapours through many aerial parts like the stomata, cuticle, lenticels etc. Hence, on the basis of aerial parts, transpiration are of three types:

  • Cuticular transpiration - Transpiration occurs through the cuticle.
  • Lenticular transpiration - Transpiration occurs through the lenticel.
  • Stomatal transpiration - Transpiration occurs through stomata.

 \Large{ \boxed{ \rm{ \green{Importance \: of \: transpiration}}}}

The various importance of transpiration are

  1. It helps in the absorption of water and minerals from the soil.
  2. It helps in regulating the temperature of the plant.

⚠️But most of the water absorbed by plants is lost by the plants by transpiration without any purpose. The energy spent during transpiration is wasted. Hence,\large{\rm{\red{\: Transpiration \:is\: a\: necessary\: evil. }}}

Answer:

Option - (B)

Explanation:

1) Transpiration is the process of losing water vapour from the leaves of plants.

2) In the process of transpiration the water moves through the plant and move as evaporation to flowers, steam, etc.

3) Some small part of the water extracted from plants is used in the plant body.

4) Most of the remaining water is pumped out of the body in the form of vapour.

5) This action occurring in plants is called transpiration.

6) The movement of plants to expel body water in the form of vaporize is called evaporation.

7) The amount of transpiration can save with an instrument. This device is called a Potometer.
