Transverse waves are always characterized by particle motion being perpendicular to wave motion. Alongitudinal wave is a wave in which particles of the medium move in a direction parallel to the direction that the wave moves.

transverse waves(the vibrations are perpendicular to the direction of travel) - Waves in the sea.
Longitudinal waves(the vibrations are parallel to the direction of travel) -  Sound waves.
