Real life includes more that what you do at home. It includes jobs. Lots of us have jobs that we couldn't do without knowing trig. I can't do math without trig. Engineers and scientists of all kinds need to know trig.

What you use includes what you use indirectly as well as directly. Just about every bit of technology you use involves it. If you listen to a weather forecast to see what the weather's going to be, that depended on trig. If you drive a car or fly in a plane, that depends on trig. If you're reading this sentence on an electronic device, that depends on trig. If you use computers, telecommunications, an electronic power source, or anything that uses any of these things, that depends on trig.

Most of civilization depends on trig, so if you're a part of it, you use trigonometry in real life.

Fields that use trigonometry or trigonometric functions include astronomy (especially for locating apparent positions of celestial objects, in which sphericaltrigonometry is essential) and hence navigation (on the oceans, in aircraft, and in space), music theory, acoustics, optics, analysis of financial markets
