valence shell is outer most shell and valence band is also outer most shellof atom but in solids(usually semiconductors).there will always be electrons in these shell/band but it is misleadingly said that they are responsible for behaviour of atom.or when we want to define energy of ashell we rather use term band

valance shell means the shell which which has its octate complete and valency means the no. of atoms present in the outermost shell....
