➡Quantum Tunneling comes from the wave-particle duality.

➡Classically, if I take a baseball and chuck it at a very thin (microns) brick wall, it will bounce back. This treats our baseball as a particle.

➡Quantum mechanically, the baseball is a wave (wave packet is probably a better analogy) with finite amplitude dispersed over a larger width than the original width of the baseball.

➡By amplitude, I mean there is a chance of observing the ball over a wider range of values than classically.

➡When the baseball hits the brick wall, a portion of this wave is found on the other side of the wall.

➡This means that there is a finite probability of finding the ball there.

➡When we do find the ball there, we say it has tunneled through.

➡The exact process by whisomething tunnels is not very clear - but the result of tunneling has been studied widely.
