When a beam of light strikes tiny particles ( dust, moisture, etc) it is scattered in different directions and makes the path visible. This phenomenon is called Tyndall effect. Example: In movie theatres, if you observe near the film projector, you would be able to see dust particles in a beam of light linear to the projector. Or, if you let in light in a dark room through a small hole you would be able to observe this effect.
