When light passes through a colloid, it disperse the light inside it. This is called the Tyndall Effect. It is caused because the particles of the colloid are in random motion so the disperse the light instead of reflecting.

When a beam of light passes through a colloid or a very fine suspension, the particles in the mixtures in question can scatter it. This scattering of a beam of light is called the Tyndall effect.
