United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED), (other name: Earth Summit) was a conference held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, on June 3–14, 1992. The goal was to reconcile worldwide economic development with protection of the environment. The event was attended by 117 heads of state and representatives of 178 nations.

During the conference, most of the world’s countries committed to pursuing  sustainable economic development, protecting the environment and nonrenewable resources.
