Multi-core processors were introduced to the market in the early 2000s and over time have evolved to more specific naming conventions such as ''dual core'' (two cores), ''quad core'' (four cores), ''hexa core'' (six cores), ''octo core'' (eight cores), etc. The idea is that dual core processors are twice as powerful as a single core, and so on.
