The use of keeping food in air tight containers are:

✍️ Oxidation is define as the interaction of oxygen molecules with all the different substances from metal to living tissue which may come into contact with it.

✍️When fats and oils or oxidised to become rancid their smell and taste changes.

✍️ Keeping putting a tight containers helps to Slow Down oxidation process.

✍️So, chips like substance manufacturers usually flash bags of chips with gas such as nitrogen to prevent the chips from getting oxidized.

Hey mate,

When you keep food in open place, The fats or oil will react with OXYGEN and oxidizes since OXYGEN is highly reactive. It also changes the food's smell and taste. That is why it is highly recommended to keep your food in air tight container so that no oxygen can go through it and we could keep the food for a long time with spoiling the food.

Hope it helps!
