Valency is the combining capacity of an element.

Valency of Na:-

Electronic Configuration of Na - 2,8,1

1 is valence electron

Valency of Na is 1

Valency of Cl :-

Valence electron is 7

So valency is 1

The combining capacity of an element is known as valency

If the group no of an element is 1A to 5A then the valency is its group no . If its above5A then its 8-GN.

For eg valency of cl
Its group no is 7A then its valency is 8-7=1
