Valency is the combining power of an element.

Explanation:

In simpler words you can find it from periodic table from the difference of all elements from 18th row of inert gases having valency as 0.

Just see the periodic table(you can download it from internet) and that elements in same group will have same valency.

Example- in 18th group helium, neon, argon, xeon, etc. all are inert gases.

in 17th group fluorine, chlorine, bromine, Iodine ect. all have valency as 1.

in 16th group oxygen, sulphur etc. all have valency as 2.

There is a table below so you can memorise valency of some common elements.
