here is your answer-

Vanderwaals force is a weak intermolecular attractive force between the ends of the dipoles in the neighbouring atoms. This is the force, which is responsible for the deviation from ideal gas behaviour studied by van der waals. It is also the force which allows inert gas atoms to condense at low temperatures. Vanderwaals forces are nondirectional and unsaturated.

There are three types of van der waals forces:

1) Dipole-Dipole: These forces occur in polar molecules, that have unequal sharing of electrons.

2) Dispersion forces: These forces occur in a nonpolar molecules, that have equal sharing of electrons.

3) Hydrogen bonding: It is the strongest type of the vanderwaals forces. It is just like a dipole-dipole interaction, that forms between the most electronegative atoms like fluorine, oxygen and nitrogen because these atoms produce strong dipoles.

hope it will help you....

the covalent bonds have weak vander wall forces present between which do not hold the molecules tightly.
