what is -ve acceleration?????

ve acceleration (under linear motion)  is same as retardation  (i.e. velocity of an object under negative accleration) will keep on decreasing. whereas under +ve acceleration, velocity should keep on increasing.

 

Another way of looking it is: , if the motion of the object is opposite to the direction of  'acceleration' then acceleration is taken as -ve (e.g. object is moving up under gravity, so gravitational accln is opposite (i.e. downward) to the direction of motion (which is upward) hence sccln = -g and if acceleration is in same direction as of motion, it is taken as +ve

Retadation... That is the acceleration is taking place in the opposite direction of the given direction.. That is the acceleration is in negative value
