A positive deviation occurs when the vapor pressure of the solution exceeds the ideal pressure predicted by Raoult's law. A positive deviation is associated with an endothermic reaction which occurs when a polar substances like methanol is combined with a nonpolar substance such as hexane.

Positive deviations : ... In this type of deviations, the partial vapour pressure of solutions is less than that of ideal solution of same composition.Boiling point of such a solution is relatively higher than the boiling points of both the components. This type of behavior is known as negative deviation.
