a vector quantity is a quantity having both magnitude and direction, for eg. force, weight, displacement
a scalar quantity has only magnitude,for eg:mass,length,time
moreover, scalar quantities can be added or subtracted following algebraic properties while vector quantities only follow vector laws of addition and subtraction.
