Vegetative propagation (in plants) : A number of perennial plants propagate vegetatively in nature. In the methods, vegetative propagules (somatic parts) of the plant develop into new plants under suitable condition. Vegetative propagation is of two types - natural and artificial.
Advantages of vegetative propagation :
1) Is usually means of propagation plants which do not produce viable seeds, or produce very few seeds or have long dormant period of seeds.
2) It helps in producing disease-free plants.
3) All plants produce by Vegetative propagation are genetically similar to the parent plants and have all its characteristics.
4) Plants raised by vegetative propagation can bear flowers and fruits earlier than those which are produced from seeds.
