Vegetative propagation is a form of asexual reproduction of a plant. Only one plant is involved and the offspring is the result of one parent. The new plant is genetically identical to the parent.

hi!

  1. vegetative propagation means reproduction through vegetative parts i.e., other than sexual organs.
  2. this do not involve in fusion of gamates and fertilisation.
  3. stems - runners are type of stems that arise from main axis of plant and run to new niches and grow as individual when older parts die. ex = chrysanthemum
  4. roots - new plants will grow out of swollen, modified roots called tubers. Buds develop at the base of the stem and then grow into new plants
  5. Leaves of some plants will grow into a new plant if they become detached from the parent plant. Other plants grow small plants called plantlets on the edge of their leaves.ex = bryophyllum.
  6. grafting - also a artificial process involves into joining two plants to grow as a single plant.this process helps in getting genetic variation and required characters in plants.ex - mango
  7. layering - .artificial process where the slender branch of plant is bent down into moist soil too grow into a new plant.this helps in more production of plants like rose.
