The velds are the temperature grasslands found in South Africa. The country lies at the southern tip of Africa. It is bordered on the north-east by Swaziland and Mozambique, on the north by Botswana and Zimbabwe and in the north west by Namibia. To the west band south is the Atlantic Ocean and to the east bis the Indian Ocean.

Most of South Africa is high plateau which slopes from East to West. The North - eastern part of the plateau is known as the High Veld. ' veld' in Dutch means field. The Height of the veld ranges between 600 m and 1,100 m above the sea level.
