it means the speed of something in the given direction..

the standard unit is metre per second... alternatively centimetre per second can also be used to express velocity magnitude..

Velocity is nothing but the rate of change of displacement.

It's a vector quantity as the displacement depends upon both magnitude and direction

CGS Unit: cm/s
SI Unit: m/s
