The velocity of an object is the rate of change of its position with respect to a frame of reference, and is a function of time.

Velocity is equivalent to a specification of an object's speed and direction of motion.

Answer:

velocity is the rate of change of displacement and displacement is the shortest distance between two points.

velocity = displacement /time

velocity and speed are kind of same but velocity is vector and speed is scalar . Which means velocity depends on the direction . So if a body moves around a circular path and comes back to the starting point then there will be no displacement as starting point and ending point are the same . then the displacement will be zero and as a result the velocity will be also zero . but the distance will be the circumference of the circle and speed will be circumference by time taken. The rate of change of velocity is acceleration .
